Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the House’s version of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2024. The NDAA sets policy for our nation’s defense, and this year's bill ensures our military is focused on protecting our Constitutional rights and defending our homeland.
The House version of this legislation stops the Department of Defense (DoD)'s illegal abortion policy, includes reinstatement for military members who were fired for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine, and prevents the DoD from funding gender transition surgeries with taxpayer dollars.
“This bill prioritizes a strong national defense, military readiness, and servicemembers' needs over Biden's far-left, woke agenda at the Department of Defense," said Moore. “In the face of alarming recruiting numbers and emerging global threats, Republicans are working to ensure our military is focused on protecting American citizens instead of holding drag shows and funding travel for abortion."

The FY2024 NDAA:
- Ends divisive policies implemented by the Biden administration such as drag shows on military bases that have hurt recruiting, unit cohesion, and military readiness.
- Provides the largest pay raise for military in 30 years and authorizes a bonus for the junior enlisted.
- Increases allowances for housing and basic needs to counteract growing costs for food and housing.
- Authorizes $200 million more than the President requested to build new barracks and family housing.
- Prohibits the Department of Defense from contracting with companies that do business with China.
- Accelerates the deployment of advanced radars to track Chinese surveillance equipment.
- Expands access and significantly reduces the cost of childcare for military families.
- Fully funds the modernization of our nuclear triad and strengthens missile defense.
- Makes it easier for military spouses to find jobs when servicemembers transfer stations.
- Saves $40B by cutting inefficient defense programs, obsolete weapons systems, and unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Improves the quality of military healthcare, especially mental health services for servicemembers and their families.
America First Policy Institute, Catholic Vote, Center for Urban Renewal and Education, Family Policy Alliance and March for Life Action expressed their support for this legislation.
