Nine businesses registered in cities in Monroe County during February

There were nine businesses that registered in cities within Monroe County during February, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 25 percent less than the month before, when 12 businesses were registered.

Monroeville registered the most businesses in Monroe County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
