One business registered in a city within Monroe County in week ending Feb. 11

There was one business that registered in cities within Monroe County in the week ending Feb. 11, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 75 percent less than the week before, when four businesses were registered.

Monroeville registered the most businesses in Monroe County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
