Butler County School System issued the following announcement on Nov. 13.
Butler County School System has designated Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24, 2020 as virtual learning days for all students within the system. Students will not report to school for face to face instruction on these days. All virtual and in person students will be required to complete their school work at home using the virtual platforms that have been assigned to them. Teachers will be monitoring their progress to ensure completion of their work.
All employees will report to work both days on their regular schedule. Our school officials will be contacting parents of students who did not make adequate progress the first nine weeks for the purpose of scheduling meetings with teachers to discuss their child’s grades and address areas of concern. Those meetings will be scheduled on the virtual learning days. Successfully educating our students, especially with virtual learning options, requires parental encouragement and support. We have faced a learning curve this school year with the implementation of the virtual learning option and we continue to refine the process for students, parents and teachers. We encourage all parents to meet with their child’s teacher regularly to ensure they are current on their assignments and understand the materials. Our staff members are available to assist parents and answer questions as needed.
I cannot adequately express my appreciation to our staff members, and especially to our teachers, who embraced our plan to provide viable educational options for our students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our teachers have been willing to go above and beyond to respond to the ever changing needs of our students in the midst of these trying times. I continue to be thankful to our students’ families and our community members for their patience, cooperation, and assistance in this process.
November 16-22 has been designated “Thank Alabama Teachers Week”. As superintendent, I wish to personally thank all teachers for the tremendous show of dedication and professionalism during and throughout the COVID19 pandemic. The Butler County Schools staff have demonstrated great courage and sacrifice in their endeavor to serve our students and community during an extraordinarily difficult time. I am asking that all of our school community reach out to our teachers with gestures of thankfulness for their valiant fight to continue the educational process for children.
