Cost of college went up for all students at Lurleen B Wallace Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 6.8 percent for 2018-19 at Lurleen B Wallace Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Alabama residents paid $4,740 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $300 more than the $4,440 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 81.6 percent more than residents this year, or $8,610. Their price tag grew 7.5 percent from $8,010 in 2017-18.

About 95 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Alabama residents. And about 4 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 372 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.2 million and 15 students took out student loans totaling more than $95,473.

Including all undergraduates (1,784), 1,529 students used grants or scholarships totaling $6.7 million.
