Lurleen B Wallace Community College issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
The memorandum of agreement for the Jimmy Lynn Byrd Memorial Scholarship Fund was signed.
Mr. Byrd, the father of LBWCC Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement Dr. Arlene Davis, is remembered as a man who served his country with pride and loved his family dearly.
“My dad would be very honored to have a scholarship named for him,” Dr. Davis said. “I know he would be delighted to help a deserving student meet and exceed their educational goals.”
Mr. Byrd served in the Navy and was a dedicated patriot. He celebrated his 80th birthday on May 3 and was laid to rest on Memorial Day, May 25, 2020.
“This scholarship will continue to honor my Dad with a legacy of dedication to education,” Dr. Davis added. “I want to thank everyone who donated to the Mr. Jimmy Lynn Byrd Memorial Scholarship Fund. The donations were much appreciated by Mrs. Dolores A. Byrd and his children.”
