FOIA Request to Reid State Technical College regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

The South Alabama Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Reid State Technical College seeking access to educational records. The request specifically asks for a complete list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 semester. This includes syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or through hybrid formats.

In addition to the syllabi themselves, the request seeks relevant metadata such as course titles and numbers, instructor names, department or academic unit affiliations, and the format of course delivery. The information is requested under the Alabama Open Records Law ยง 36-12-40 et seq., with a preference for receiving it in electronic format.

The request emphasizes the importance of public access to these records for transparency and accountability purposes. As members of the media committed to providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to this information is crucial. Additionally, we have requested a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information as media professionals.

The South Alabama Times is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating government actions using Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More details about this coalition can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
