FOIA Request to Reid State Technical College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the South Alabama Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Reid State Technical College. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected, we have requested a total count of these students broken down by department.

Additionally, we seek records detailing any scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We are particularly interested in identifying recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our request includes any policies or procedures that outline how the college monitors its students—specifically Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

This inquiry is made on behalf of both our publication and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, access to such records is crucial for us to fulfill our role effectively. We have also requested a fee waiver in light of our media status.
