Conecuh County had 284 students ready for college in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Alabama Department of Education. This represents 65% of the 437 pupils in that year’s graduating cohort.

College readiness in the county increased compared to the previous school year, when 275 students were considered prepared for college.

Across Conecuh County, Hillcrest High School stood out, with almost 75.4% of students set to graduate considered ready for college. Meanwhile, Genesis Innovative School ranked last, with only 57.6% meeting the benchmark.

College readiness in the county varied based on students’ ethnicity. During the 2023-24 school year, while 33.4% of Black or African American students were considered ready for college, only 26.5% white students achieved the same status. These rankings may not reflect absolute accuracy, as data for small student groups may have been suppressed to protect student privacy.

Conecuh County had an overall graduation rate of 65.2%.

Alabama’s educational system was rated as one of the worst in the U.S., according to a 2023 study from Scholaroo. The state was ranked 46th based on factors such as school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.
